Q&A with Jonelle Dickson-Prokopchak of Zen Barre®

Jonelle Dickson-Prokopchak believes that fitness should be more than a short-term answer, but instead a journey to a healthy mind, body, and soul. Human services and helping others have always been important to Jonelle. This is what led her to start Zen Barre®.

Can you tell our readers about your background?

I am a full-time speech-language pathologist in a local school district. I run/own a barre & yoga fitness studio, The Zen Barre®, and I run/own an online Barre certification, Zen Barre® Method, as well as live trainings.

What inspired you to start your business?

I started my business because I wanted to empower other women. I wanted to give them a space to heal and feel safe. My certification gives women the tools to inspire, empower, and change lives.

Where is your business based?

My flagship studio is based in Dallas, PA. My barre certification of the Zen Barre® Method is online and can also be hosted live at any studio in the country. Interested in a live training? Let me know!

How did you start your business? What were the first steps you took?

I started my business after helping run other successful gyms. I wanted my own business that followed my beliefs that allowed me to be creative while being passionate. My business developed over time as I was teaching fitness classes, next came the name to the method I developed.

What has been the most effective way of raising awareness for your business?

The most effective way of raising awareness in my business is connecting with my clients and building a sense of community.

What have been your biggest challenges and how did you overcome them?

My biggest challenge is fitting everything into my day. Before you, tasks pile up and time runs out. I overcame finding time for everything by prioritizing and doing what is most important first. Best tip: Focus on one task at a time.

How do you stay focused?

To stay focused I make a lot of lists. I like to see what is ahead of me and what has been accomplished (I cross off the tasks completed).

What has been your most effective marketing strategy to grow your business?

Working with a marketing company called KGV Marketing, she is amazing! We develop monthly media plans that help us grow.

What's your best piece of advice for aspiring and new entrepreneurs?

My best piece of advice is to trust yourself and the process. Building anything takes time and consistency. If you commit and connect with your clients- your business will grow.

What's your favorite app, blog, and book? Why?

My all-time favorite app is PicLab, it allows me to edit pictures in all sorts of ways for social media. Super useful and time-saving.

What's your favorite business tool or resource? Why?

My favorite business tool is canva.com. This helps me create and develop advertising, social media posts, facebook covers, etc.

Who is your business role model? Why?

I love Bizzie Gold- she has similar interests and passions that I do. I feel I can relate to her passion to inspire and empower women.

What do you have planned for the next six months?

Wow- there is so much planned for this company. We are scheduling live trainings across the country and working on new training videos. This is just the beginning for us.
