Can you tell our readers about your background?

At heart, I am an entrepreneur as well as a Mental Health Professional, and Philanthropist. Helping others, is my passion, my purpose, and love! All these feelings inspired me to put together my first therapeutic tool - Margaret’s Box.

What inspired you to start your business?

My love of seeing people overcome what they see/perceive as obstacles, on their journey to finding their place, or space that will bring them peace and happiness.

Where is your business based?

Raleigh, North Carolina

How did you start your business?

Volunteering was my foundation, along with a passion for helping others, drove me to begin my own business.

What were the first steps you took?

Getting to know my community members, learning and understanding what they needed, and continue to need from a mental health perspective. If clients weren’t able to make it to my office, I offered home therapy. I now offer text therapy. I am always trying to fit my clients' needs.

What has been the most effective way of raising awareness for your business?

Making myself accessible through volunteering. Joining panels, and connecting with leaders in the community. Getting in the trenches works for me.

What have been your biggest challenges and how did you overcome them?

I like to refer to “challenges” as learning curves, and I have learned from all of them. I look at learning from those challenges, as overcoming challenges”

How do you stay focused?

Meditation, along with Exercising. Self-care is huge. You can’t pour from an empty cup.

How do you differentiate your business from the competition?

The foundation of my business is built on love and inspiration. And my client’s feel it in all aspects of my business.

What has been your most effective marketing strategy to grow your business?

Social Media!! Becoming comfortable with using the various SM platforms, has surely helped expand my reach, along with word of mouth from present and former clients.

What's your best piece of advice for aspiring and new entrepreneurs?

Practice good time management. Don’t waste time! You cannot retrieve lost time! When you’re an entrepreneur - every second must count! There is always work to be done.

What's your favorite app, blog, and book? Why?

My favorite app is Blue Jeans. My team and I can all meet virtually. I am in, and out of my car a lot. So it’s very convenient - all I need is my phone.

My favorite blog is Sweet Potato Soul. Jenna Claiborne posts the best vegan recipes. It helps with planning dinner after a long day. She takes the worry out of dinner.

My favorite book is You are Special: Words of Wisdom for All Ages from a Beloved Neighbor- By Fred Rogers. This book is encouraging, gives food for thought, and lays the foundation for good living.

What's your favorite business tool or resource? Why?

Instagram - the whole world seems to be in that little search box #.

Who is your business role model? Why?

My biological Father. He didn’t raise me, but just to know and hear the stories of him being a self-made millionaire with only a sixth-grade education. My Father’s story (Johnny Poole) always inspires me.

What do you have planned for the next six months?

To get out on the conference circuit to speak, and introduce people to my first Therapeutic Product - Margaret’s Box. The product plays off the idea of a vision board. I have added a therapeutic curriculum. I’m very excited about how it can help others bring their dreams and desires to reality.
