7 Ways To Make Money From Your Home

Are you looking for ways you can generate an income from your property or land you own? Your land can be an untapped revenue source, providing you adobe by local and federal laws pertaining to your property. Finding different ways to make money to help you cover the bills and top up your income can open your eyes to the possibilities for your property.

So, what exactly can you do to make money from your home or your land?

Add A Separate Structure

Separate structures can be incredibly versatile, and depending on the space you have, your location, and amenities within said structure, you have a few possibilities for these options or once you have added them to your property.

In the first instance, you can add a shed and turn it into a self-contained office, gym, or fitness room that you can rent out to people to work from. It can be your local yoga instructor who needs a quiet space to film tutorials or content for social media, it can be a permanent office place for a small business, or you can even rent it out on sites like Airbnb to help you provide accommodation for travelers; this is an excellent idea if you live local to venues that host major events such as concerts or sports.

If you don’t have a structure to use but have the space to add one and planning permission, you can add a self-contained building using a Pole Barn Designer Tool to build the perfect barn for personal or commercial use, or you can add a tiny home to list for overnight stays or longer trips.

Rent A Room

If you have spare rooms in your home you're not using; you can rent these out for a few different uses. Again, renting a room out on a per-night basis can appeal to vacationers or people visiting family and friends in the area; you can take a permanent lodger, or you can rent out the room as an office for remote workers if you can supply them with a good internet connection to be able to work with.

It all depends on what you feel comfortable with and how you feel about others in your home. A good idea, if possible, is to pick a room that has or can have external access added, meaning you can only allow access to that room without having others roaming around your house. There will likely be building codes and requirements to adhere to, but it's an option to consider.

Sell Parking Spaces

Do you work in a commuter-heavy area or in a buddy city that charges parking fees? Commutors will often pay for a safe parking space that saves them money and keeps their cars out of public parking lots. Even if you can only host one car on your drive, you can make money from renting out that space if you don't need it on an ongoing basis or for short stays, i.e., as an alternative to airport parking, for special events or shows, etc.

You can use listing sites to sell car parking spaces; how much you make will be dependent on the area and demand and whether or not you can provide any additional features, such as gates that can be closed once parked or security cameras.

Host International Students

International students are those who come to study for short periods from another country and often need families or homes to put them up; registering with official organizations that offer this service means you can not only get paid for hosting students but can help a young person achieve their dreams too. Typically, they will stay with you for a reduced rate, but if you can provide extra services, e.g., en-suite, tailored meals, specific dietary requirements, or anything else, you can earn more money for students who might otherwise struggle to be placed with a family.

Storage Space

If you have a loft space you don't use, a dry and secure basement, or even outbuildings that can store belongings in, then why not rent out these areas for storage for others? It might be that a small business needs to temporarily store items while they find bigger premises, or someone moving house needs to put items in storage, and so on, but if you're happy for people to leave their belongings with you for an extended period of time, then why not advertise your empty spaces for storage for other people.

Rent Out Your Pool

If you have a pool on your property, renting it out when you don't use it can be a great money maker in the hot weather. There are likely some legal requirements you need to meet to ensure that your pool is safe for people to use on a commercial basis; however, it is an available avenue to look into.

If your pool has separate access or you have facilities people can use, such as outdoor changing spaces, showers, seating areas, or even outdoor cooking facilities they can use, then you can charge even more; you can even "host" pool parties and have others pay to use your pool while you supply food drinks, entertainment, decor, etc. If you're not using it, you may as well make some money from others using it instead.

Film or TV Location

There are so many normal family homes that have become the subject of movies or TV shows. The cottage in Surrey, UK, from The Holiday, for example, and the house used on Home Alone are residential properties rented out for the entertainment industry.

There are likely going to be strict rules as to what production companies are looking for, and they will need you to allow them to make changes to meet their needs; you will likely also need to relocate during filming, but this can be an exceptionally lucrative option especially if you have a large or unique property that can make a great backdrop or feature for upcoming projects.

Your home can be anything you want it to be, including a money maker if you wish. The options in this post are great ways for you to make some money from something you already won and make your home work harder for you.
