Tips on simplifying social media

Social media is a huge world that is fairly new to us in a way, considering fifteen to twenty years ago, we didn’t use it at all, as we do now. However, in today’s world, it is so important and you can’t run a successful business without having a good social media presence.

Having a social presence shows trust to your customers, allows you to share updates on what’s going on with your business, helps you bring in new customers and you can use social media to generate leads for your website, which is also an important tool to a successful business.

With this all being said, social media isn’t an easy task, it can take up a lot of your time and it’s hard to master - if it were easy, everyone would be a social media guru! To make it a little easier for you, we have put together a few tips on simplifying social media.

Create a social media schedule

Having a social media schedule can make running a social media platform a lot easier. By having a schedule, you can spend an evening a week, setting up what’s going to go out each day, so that you don’t need to do it on a day-to-day basis or quickly, if you are running out of time that day. No matter the type of content you are putting out, videos, articles, AI content of yourself (you can use Foxy for this) or images, a schedule will help simplify social media for you.

Focus on quality not quantity

If you focus on quality content, instead of the amount of content you are putting out, this can make social media a lot more fun and less intensive. The reason for this is that quality content means you can post a couple of times a week and get good engagement, instead of having to put a few posts up each day and feel like you are constantly on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok or X.

Don’t use all the channels

A lot of people fall into the mistake that they feel like they need to use all the social media channels and by doing this, spread themselves too thin and don’t put out good content. Instead, sign up for the channels that best relate to you and the content you want to put out, grow an audience and then when you have more time, sign up for a few more channels - this is a lot simpler and will save you time. If you aren’t sure what channels to sign up for, a quick guide is this: Facebook is good for article publishing and sharing video content. Instagram & Tiktok are great for image and video sharing whilst opinions, articles and quick-form content are useful on X.

Invest in training

If you are finding social media difficult, and stressful and not having much luck, then it may be that you are doing it wrong. Making changes like a content schedule and focussing on quality not quantity may make it simpler, but it may not make a change to your followers. Instead, it could be that you need to invest in training and sign up for a course on social media. Courses are great as they will teach you all the best practices and the things you shouldn’t be doing. You can sign up for a course online and complete it in your own time, or visit a classroom course - whatever works best for you! A quick Google and you’ll find plenty of options. Just make sure you read the reviews first, to make sure the course is a reputable one.

Social media can be stressful, but once you have got on top of things and simplified your process, it can be a lot of fun and there is a lot of reward when you see your followers increase. Try making some changes to your process for one or two of your channels and see if you have a success, then apply the same method to the others. If you find yourself resenting social media, after you have made your changes, then getting in a social media expert to run your channels may be an option.
